Our Mission

We're the Clients' Security Board of the Supreme Judicial Court.

The Court created us in 1974 to do only one thing:

Reimburse law clients whose lawyers have stolen from them.

We do it to preserve trust in the legal profession.

Every dollar we use to reimburse law clients comes from only one source: the lawyers of Massachusetts.

We've been reimbursing law clients for more than fifty years.

Since 1974 the Board has reimbursed more than $57 million to over 2,500 law clients.

Each reimbursement we make is a matter of grace not right.

Each Board member serves for a term of five years.

The Board has no statute of limitations.

The Board has no caps on reimbursements to an individual claimant.

Since 1974 the Board has reimbursed more than $2.8 million for the thefts of one disciplined lawyer.

Since 1974 the Board has reimbursed more than $1 million each for the thefts of six different disciplined lawyers.

The Clients' Security Fund is audited annually by independent auditors.

The Board's claim form is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Lawyers helping claimants before the Board must do so without compensation.

In 2022, only 16 out of more than almost 60,000 Massachusetts lawyers (0.03%) were responsible for the thefts reimbursed by the Board.
